The Champagne Adventure II

My recent affinity for champagne met me with a light-bulb moment; enjoying champagne goes beyond the drink.  The popping, flute filling, toasting & clicking, smiles & tales sharing…it all tells a story; love is in the air!  

What: A tens of thousand miles trip. 

Who: Three Generations of family.  

Where: Across continental lines.

The champagnes are (clockwise) Louis Roederer Brut Premier, Bonnaire Tradition, Taittinger Brut La Francaise & Freixenet Cordon Negro.  Noteworthy is the Bonnaire Tradition was the least expressive, dry and lacked depth.   

Revel in a “soft pop” to preserve the carbonation.

The Champagne Adventure

I recently got into champagnes; thus far I’ve explored G.H. Mumm Cordon Rouge, Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label, Segura Viudas Reserva Heredad and Cook’s champagne.

I’m not here to give a yeast-driven-citrus-based aromas analysis nor a toasty-character-perfectly paired with foie gras review.

All I have is the Segura Viudas was the least complex i.e. not overly multi-layered, and it was the second least supple - Cook’s was the most supple.  All bottles were rich especially the Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label which takes second place.  I LOVE the Cordon Rouge’s finish but the Segura Viudas Reserva is the definitely the most balanced!
